North-East Zone Tibetan Parliamentary delegation concludes lobby campaign in Chhattisgarh

Governor, Chief Minister and senior Ministers express support for Tibet
Raipur, January 21, 2013: The North-East Zone Tibetan Parliamentary delegation concluded its 4-day lobby campaign today in Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh. A press conference at the Raipur press club and a mass solidarity rally in the city marked the final day of the campaign.
The third leg of North-East zone lobby campaign began on January 18 in Chhattisgarh.
The Honorable Chief Minister Shri Dr. Raman Singh received the delegation at his residence on January 19. The chief minister reiterated his party ‘Bharatiya Janata Party’s’ (BJP) resolute commitment to backing the Tibetan cause’ and assured that ‘the State Government will deliver its best to facilitate the Tibetan hamlets in his State.’
The delegation held an hour-long meeting with the Honorable Governor of the State, Shri Shekhar Dutt and the State’s first lady at Raj Bhavan on January 20. The Governor stressed on the importance of ‘amassing mass support from the Indian public for the political movement.’ “Make the benign Tibet presence: its culture and religion felt in the heartland and hinterland of India and this could potentially boost interest in Tibet and thereby augment the general public interest to that of specific public interest,” said the Governor. The delegates briefed the Governor on the status of the Tibetan call for a multilateral action from the international community. The Governor offered rationale
approaches to help expedite the process of bringing about a resolution to the Tibetan issue. “Involve the stakeholders of Chinese booming economy, the major western investors to assert moral pressure on China and ensure that dialogue with China takes place horizontally: from all corners and on all fronts,” said the highest-ranking civilian of the State.

The State Cabinet Minister for Agriculture - Shri Chandrashekar Sahoo, Minister for Education and Tourism – Shri Brij Mohan Aggarwal, Minister for Forest – Shri Vikram Usandi welcomed the delegation at their ministry offices and pledged the ‘support of State Government for the Tibetan struggle against oppression.’

Successive meetings were held with senior political leaders of the State ruling party, BJP: Shri Sohan Potai, Member of Lok Sabha and Shri Sevak Ram Netan, MLA. They vouched the support of their 12 Members of the Parliament (10 at Lok Sabha and 2 at Rajya Sabha) for the tabling and passing of an ‘All-India Parliamentary resolution on the Tibet crisis.’

The other MLAs of Chhattisgarh with whom the delegation couldn’t engage in a direct face-to-face meeting were apprised of the campaign and its goals through a memorandum sent via priority mail.

The 4-member delegation led by former speaker and member of TPIE, Mr. Pema Jungney, include Mr. Serta Tsultrim, Ms. Yangchen Dolkar and Ms. Dhardon Sharling. While deeming the steadfast support of the Indian Government and its people towards the Tibetan people as significant, the delegation appealed the Indian leaders for substantial and public expressions of solidarity and support amid the unprecedented spate of self-immolations by Tibetans inside Tibet and the subsequent deepening crackdown by Chinese Government. The delegates also urged India to engage in urgent diplomatic actions pressuring the Chinese Government on various fronts.

After a successful lobbying work in West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh the delegation will visit Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Sikkim and Nagaland for the ‘All -India lobby campaign.’
